Lucky 88 is Aristocrat's Asian-themed pokie, built around the number that Chinese culture considers the luckiest of all. The 5x3 grid, 25 paylines and a free spins round with large multipliers have made it one of the most requested Aristocrat titles in Australia, and the number 88 appears throughout the design. Players looking for lucky 88 pokies, free play or real money versions find it at licensed offshore casinos.
The game is famous for the 88 multiplier in the free spins and for a gamble feature that lets players double or quadruple wins in the base game.
Theme and Layout
The reels carry lanterns, gold ingots, fans and Chinese characters, with the number 88 as the highest-paying symbol and the wild. A 5x3 grid with 25 fixed paylines and a low starting bet keep the game accessible for casual play.
The 88 wild substitutes for all symbols except the scatter. The scatter is the golden dragon, and it controls access to the free spins.
The Free Spins Feature
Landing three or more dragon scatters triggers the free games. The round is the Aristocrat classic with a twist: before it starts, you pick from a set of multipliers, and the largest is the 88x option, which explains the name.
The free spins can be retriggered, and the chosen multiplier applies to every win in the round. A long retrigger run at a high multiplier is where the game produces its biggest results, with the commonly quoted maximum win around 1,250x the stake.
The Gamble Feature
The base game includes a gamble option after any win: you can wager the payout on a card colour or suit guess. Correct guesses double or quadruple the amount, and the chain can continue until you stop or lose. The feature is optional and purely a player choice, since the odds sit with the house over the long run.
